Gratitude
I know what you're probably thinking, what does gratitude have to do with accounting? Well, that is what I am going to explain in this post. I believe, from personal experience, that practicing gratitude will help you achieve your goals in every area of your life, including your business.
Having gratitude for all the blessings in your life, and acknowledging them, is a great way to bring more of what you want into your life. I know that the economic situation seems a little depressing right now, but if you focus your attention on what you DO have, it will bring more. For instance, do you have a client, or a few clients, that are still doing business with you? You need to be grateful for them, and let them know it. Everyone likes to hear nice things and I have found a great way to help me do that regularly. I use something called UG cards to acknowledge my appreciation for clients and others I come in contact with that provide great service. I found them on this site Unleash Gratitude. Every month, I get a set of 10 cards that expire at the end of the next month. My goal is to give them all out to people I feel deserve them before they expire. The recipient gets a code that they type into a website, they get to see a beautiful video about gratitude and enter a drawing to win a $300 prize. I give them to the person that serves me at Starbucks, a waitress that has been especially attentive and helpful, my massage therapist, anyone who I have gratitude for, for any reason.
I have found this to be a helpful way to practice more gratitude in my life. I have made it a ritual to say what I am grateful for every night before I go to bed. This keeps me centered and focused on the positive and the blessings in my life, and I have many to be thankful for, great clients, an amazing family, a roof over my head, plenty of food, and lots of other things.
So I encourage you to not only be grateful to the clients/customers you do have, but to let them know it. It's a great feeling to let someone know you appreciate them, and to receive acknowledgments from others as well. Set a goal to tell at least 5 people every day something about them that you are grateful for, you will be amazed at how good it feels.
Last, but not least, I am grateful to you for reading this and I would love to have you post a comment telling me your thoughts on this. Please click on Add Comment and share what you think, I look forward to reading your comments.

Teresa, I love that someone in your field has come forward to make the connection between belief and experience. These days, it seems many are quick to complain. Sometimes they complain about their own issues, but more often it is about the problems they observe others experiencing! They get so wrapped up in how many others have lost jobs, homes, or worse...and fail to take the same time to be grateful for all of their blessings! Our blessings always outweigh our problems, and once you begin to see the blessings in your problems (like my blog post you commented on at http://is.gd/gOin- )then the heart truly overflows with gratitude!
Many blessings,
Nancy

Nancy,
I believe it applies to every field, every person, every situation. I am hoping that by making the connection from my 'accounting' blog, people will see that somehow. I wanted it to be an encouragement to my clients, and to all who read this. Focusing on what you want, instead of what you don't want, is the key, in so many ways.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thanks for being another messenger to help spread this way of thinking!
Teresa

I love this! It's so fascinating to me how we've both tuned into the same truth. I couldn't agree with you more on how offering more gratitude creates an energy for more to come your way. I love the ritual you speak of--so incredibly useful and affirming.
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to more of your entries!
